Puzzle Toledo

19.20

The Plan – Guide of the city of Toledo was published in 1882 by José Reinoso y Torija (1830-1903), a well-known Spanish engraver, cartographer, and calligrapher. After a military career, during which he learned the art of drawing and cartography, he was invited to direct the records section of the Geographic Institute of Madrid, where he drew important maps of Spanish territory, including a large and detailed map of Madrid on 17 sheets.

In addition to being the author of numerous cartographic works, he created several calligraphic collections, in various languages, and calligraphy manuals for teaching that helped entire generations throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

The map, at a scale of 1/400, is in the middle of a very orderly graphic composition. On both sides the names of the streets, squares and main monuments of the city are listed, which are also identified with numbers and the quadrant in which they are located. In the upper left corner, at a scale of 1/10,000, we find a framed map of the “Contours of Toledo towards the suburb or outer neighborhood of Azucaica.”
