In 1704 the architect, mathematician, philosopher, and cosmographer Tomás Vicente Tosca executed a detailed survey of the city of Valencia. At that time the city was going through a particularly prosperous period and the local power needed to plan its growth. Tosca took four years to finish a large-size map (285×210 cm) drawn with ink and lightly coloured with watercolour and pencil.

The image depicts a view of the Piazza del Duomo, in Florence, on the day of the Corpus Domini procession, a religious celebration that involved the clergy, the nobility and the people in a spectacular event. Many details can be noted, such as the solemnly dressed crowd, the numerous clergy in white robes lined up along the procession, the nobles in sumptuous colored clothes, some of them comfortably seated to watch the show but also carriages and groups of children playing, as well as many dogs freely circulating in the square. With high detail, the map is composed by eight sheets, arranged in two rows, featuring besides the city map, a set of special elements: a large wind rose, a poem from Jacopo Sannazaro in the hands of a putto, an allegory of Venice based on a drawing by Sebastiano Ricci, a composition with the insignia of the Morosini’s family, and a label with the dedication of the author to the doge Aloysio Mocenigo. Taxes)Published in 1870 and entitled "Milan as it is nowadays", this map was on sale in the shop of the cartographer Luigi Ronchi, at number 4 of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Very detailed and divided into districts, identified with different colors, it shows a list of the streets on the left and, on the right, the main "establishments" and their location. Among these are administrative buildings, archives, libraries, emporiums, schools and colleges, theaters, and barracks.
