Originally produced in 1945, the MC 1 Architecture Box – New Edition contains a series of “bricks” of different shapes. Put together differently, you can make any number of buildings, from houses to churches, ancient castles to modern garages, hotels, skyscrapers, factories, towers, aqueducts, temples, stations, hangars, pile dwellings, houses with porticoes, balconies, terraces, and so on.

The attached booklet contains over sixty examples which can be multiplied by the imagination of whoever is playing with them, just some of the infinite constructions that can be build.

Description

Bruno Munari (1907-1998) has been one of the protagonists of 20th-century art, design and graphics. He always dedicated his creative activity to experimentation, with a particular attention to the world of children and their games and toys. Never separating content from form and materials, what he designed were at once books, book-objects and games that would make us think. His works in the fields of painting, sculpture, design, photography and didactics cross their poetics following the path of his very personal inventiveness.

    Ladislav Sutnar, a Czechoslovak, who was born in Plzeň in 1897 and died in New York in 1976, was a pioneer of graphic design and shared with his contemporaries of the Bauhaus artistic movement a taste for bright colours and simple geometric shapes. A game designer, in 1921 he created the “Factory Town”, a very pure educational game of blocks that Vilac reissued 100 years later in cooperation with the artist Gérard Lo Monaco and the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. 3 unique copies still exist in the world, including one exhibited at the MoMa in New-York.
