Puzzle Fontana di Trevi

Among the numerous Roman views by Giovanni Paolo Pannini, an Italian painter, architect, and set designer, a place of honor is held by the painting depicting the famous Trevi Fountain. Created between 1753 and 1756, the painting immortalizes the grandiose Baroque monument, whose construction was nearing completion at the time, which would be completed by Giuseppe Pannini, the artist's son, who was also an architect.

The painting stands out for its architectural precision and lively depiction of everyday life in eighteenth-century Rome. With his unmistakable style, Pannini captures every detail of theimposing façade, from the Corinthian columns to the allegorical sculptures, among which the figure of Oceanus stands out. He also successfully captures the urban environment near the fountain, showing Via Poli and the beginning of Via della Stamperia. The artist does not limit himself to a static portrait, but animates the scene with human figures moving around the fountain, creating a visually striking snapshot. The work offers a precious historical testimony of the appearance of the fountain shortly after its completion, but also of the liveliness of Romeat the time.
