Contrasts Game
What if every pair of cards revealed a new way of seeing the world?
The Contrasts Game invites children and adults to explore the fascinating relationship between opposite concepts through observation, imagination, and conversation. Inspired by the principle of simultaneous contrast, every card encourages players to recognise visual differences, discover meaningful connections, and create new interpretations.
As designer Bruno Munari wrote:
"One extremely old rule of visual communication is that of simultaneous contrast whereby the neighbourhood of two opposing forms enhances and fit together the communication."
This idea is at the heart of the game. Play as a memory game by matching contrasting pairs, invent imaginative stories inspired by each card, or use the deck as a playful learning tool to explore opposite concepts through conversation. With multiple ways to play, every game becomes a new opportunity to learn, create, and connect.
Developed by artist Elvira Leite and architect Marco Ginoulhiac, the Contrasts Game transforms a timeless design principle into an engaging experience for children and adults alike, encouraging observation, visual thinking, creativity, and communication.
