Discover the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa through this beautifully detailed 19th-century coloured engraving, reproduced as a 540-piece puzzle. The scene captures the grandeur of the square and its monuments, while the figures in the foreground offer a glimpse into the lifestyle and fashion of the Victorian era and help convey the impressive scale of the architecture.

The engraving is the result of a collaboration between two talented 19th-century artists: William Henry Bartlett, who created the original drawing, and Robert Sands, who transferred it onto the printing plate. Their work reflects a common artistic practice of the period, in which draughtsmen and specialist engravers worked together to create detailed images for mass printing.

The work was published in Italy by Luigi Bardi in 1842, as part of a collection of Italian views. Bartlett, a renowned British artist and traveller, was known for his detailed topographical landscapes and produced numerous drawings during his travels across Europe, the Middle East and North America.

This puzzle brings together art, architecture and history, offering a unique way to explore one of Italy’s most iconic squares piece by piece.
